Cartmell Shepherd

Past to Present

"A robust and single-minded firm with a strong reputation"

Chambers Guide to the UK Legal Profession

Cartmell Shepherd can trace its Cumbrian origins back over two centuries. The practice was formed in 1989 following a merger between Cartmell Mawson & Main (with offices in Carlisle, Brampton and Haltwhistle), and Little and Shepherd (of Penrith). These two firms were themselves created from earlier mergers, and had their roots in legal practices founded two hundred years earlier.

Cartmell Shepherd values this continuity of the past into the present, and the strength it lends to the firm's links with local businesses and communities.

But Cartmell Shepherd is also committed to growth - in terms of business development, people and resources. The practice's organic expansion over the past twenty years has been accompanied by regular citations for the quality of its work in professional guides, and the firm has a reputation for excellence which extends beyond its regional boundaries.
