Our principles
Cartmell Shepherd are committed to a policy of treating all our employees, workers and job applicants equally. No employee or potential employee will receive less favourable treatment because of any “protected characteristic”, namely:
- age (or perceived age)
- disability (past or present)
- gender reassignment
- marriage or civil partnership status
- race, colour, nationality or ethnic or national origins
- religion or belief
- sex
- sexual orientation
- part-time or fixed term status
No employee or potential employee will be disadvantaged by any conditions of employment that cannot be justified as necessary on operational grounds.
We aim to encourage, value and manage diversity and are committed to equality for our entire staff. We wish to attain a workforce that is representative of the communities from which it is drawn.
These principles of equality and diversity also apply to the manner in which we treat clients, our business partners and visitors.

Inspiring diversity
We are proud of our people and the way in which we conduct our business. For example, 37% of our staff enjoy flexible working arrangements. 82% of our workforce is female; women represent 75% of the Board of Directors.
Our flexibility means that our staff can continue to enjoy a fulfilled career balancing other commitments outside of work so that we can retain valuable experience and skills which ensures our clients receive the high levels of service they expect. Use of technology means staff can operate from outside of the office environment should circumstances prevent them from coming to work.
Training, monitoring and reporting
We provide training, driven from Board level, to ensure continued awareness for all of our people from Apprentice to Director.
Annual equality and diversity monitoring reviews take place and we report and publish our diversity data to our regulator, the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Our equality and diversity review results can be found at the links below.
