Festival of Remembrance

November 12th 2018

The Cartmell Shepherd Community Choir are very proud to have taken part in the 2018 Remembered – Festival of Remembrance at The Sands Centre, Carlisle on Saturday 10 November 2018.

The Festival was a wonderful evening of different acts on the theme of 2018 Remembered, followed by the Remembrance Service led by Reverend Teasdale, who was joined on stage by members of the armed services and the evening’s acts.

It was by far the biggest and most high profile event our Community Choir has been involved with, singing on stage in front of hundreds of people – the auditorium was packed out.

In the second half of the evening the Choir followed the armed forces up on to the stage and stood with them through the Remembrance Service with the poppy petals falling – “it was a very humbling experience” said Deborah Flynn, Director and founder member of the Choir.

“I feel very proud of the choir.  There had been a lot of time and dedication from the choir members in preparing for the event and then giving it their all on the evening.  Thanks go especially to Lyn Young our Choir director who worked so hard in getting us ready for the event in her usual enthusiastic way and for providing us with the opportunity to take part in such a memorable and emotional Festival of Remembrance”.

The Cartmell Shepherd Community Choir practices on a Thursday lunchtime between 12pm and 1pm at St Cuthberts Church, Carlisle.  The Choir are looking for new members so if you are interesting in joining please do get in touch with Deborah Flynn if you would like further information.

The Choir’s next performance will be Singing in The Lanes on Thursday 20th from 12pm until 1pm outside Debenhams where they will be joined by Cartmells staff.  All are welcome so please come along and join in the Christmas fun! We will be raising funds for Oak Tree Animals’ Charity and Carlisle Key.
