Dementia Action Week 2019

May 24th 2019

This week is Dementia Action Week and it was amazing for #TeamCartmells to get involved in our local communities and show support.

It is important for us, as businesses, to make ourselves more accessible to those living with dementia and to help shape a wider community that strives to be more inclusive to those with disabilities.  Cartmells are active members of the Local Dementia Action Alliance and work within our LDAA groups to identify the areas in which this needs improving and collaboratively find ways to facilitate positive changes.

Events like Dementia Action Week help to raise awareness, educate people about what it can be like to live with dementia and encourage both individuals and businesses to make an effort to be more dementia friendly.

As well as raising awareness, we are committed to providing preventative legal guidance for people concerned about their health or the health of a family member.  On Wednesday we held drop-in sessions at our Rosehill, Penrith and West Cumbria offices for people to stop by and talk to our dementia trained specialists and receive advice on how to plan for their future.

One of our private client solicitors, Laura Wilson gave a talk at Penrith Leisure Centre on Wednesday all about the importance of being a Dementia Friend and what measures can be taken by individuals to avoid future complications.  Our private client team can help to alleviate some of the confusion surrounding things like wills and lasting powers of attorney and work with you to make sure your affairs are in order, allowing you to live your life with peace of mind.

Establishing a pre-dementia plan is something that individuals can do for themselves or for family members so that if they are later affected by dementia there are provisions in place to make the whole process a lot smoother and less stressful during a difficult time.

Here at Cartmells we wholeheartedly enjoy giving back to our community and being a part of a network of businesses and individuals committed to its development. We encourage others to become Dementia Friends and help to improve the lives of those living with dementia.
