Step up to the Plate 2019

June 27th 2019

On Saturday the #TeamCartmells super squad took part in the 21 mile Step up to the Plate Ullswater Way walk in aid of Hospice at Home – Carlisle and North Lakeland.

The Ullswater Way starts off in Pooley Bridge and leads you up past Maiden Castle and Watermillock church then loops around Aira Force waterfall. The next stops are Glencoyne and Glenridding where you can stop for refreshments and a look around the town. The walk then follows on through Patterdale and along Place Fell and Hallin Fell before passing by Bronscale Pike and Arthurs Pike. The last stretch along the lake takes walkers back around to Pooley Bridge. In other words, it’s no short trip around!

It was an early start for our girls and dogs, arriving at Pooley Bridge ready to begin the walk at 8am.

Holly, Lydia, Sarah and Lauren (and honorary Cartmells member, Bob!) walked the first 10 miles to Glenridding Village Hall before deciding to continue on and walk the full 21 miles. An amazing effort by both the walkers and dogs!

They had a tougher time on the second stretch but powered through and made it across the finish line for a well-deserved gin!

The walk in total took around 8 hours and thankfully the weather was kind to them. The team has so far raised over £300 for Hospice at Home.

We are so proud of our superstar ramblers!

Lauren from our West Cumbria office said: “the staff and marshals were really supportive giving big cheers when we finished. A really well organised event.”

A huge well done to those that took part in the walk and thank you to all who donated, you are helping to raise money for such an amazing cause.
