Deputy District Judge lands family law role with leading legal firm

A DEPUTY District Judge who specialises in family law has landed a top job with a leading legal firm.

Amy Fallows has joined Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors as an associate solicitor specialising in family law.

Amy, 44, a part-time Deputy District Juge in the county court and family court in Manchester, Liverpool and across the North-West, is well known for her family law expertise.

She advises on all aspects of family law – divorce, cohabitation, children, domestic violence and care proceedings.

Through her extensive experience of family law Amy has a particular specialism in divorce, children, and finance.

Amy said: “I am really excited to be joining Cartmell Shepherd. They have an excellent reputation.

“I am really looking forward to bringing my particular expertise to what is already a really strong team.”

Amy has a wealth of experience in legal issues relating to childcare aspects of family law and sat on the Law Society’s Children’s Panel.

Amy, who previously worked at Burnetts, is a Resolution accredited specialist and is known for her ability to navigate sensitive situations relating to legal issues around childcare.

She is a trained collaborative lawyer and is committed to resolving disputes with as little confrontation as possible.

“I am always trying to achieve what is best for the child and to find a way for everyone to reach an agreement. That’s always got to be the priority,” she said.

She is also known for her specialist knowledge where grandparents might be part of the equation in caring for a child in care disputes.

Away from work, Amy is a big advocate for life in Cumbria, having first fallen in love with the area when studying European Law at Lancaster University.

“I love the Lakes and the mountains. When we are out of lockdown I will love nothing better than getting out in the hills and taking in the views.”

Accompanying her on her walks will be seven-year-old son Ben and chocolate labrador Coco.

At the moment, Amy is working from home because of the coronavirus outbreak.

“Cartmell Shepherd have been great, setting me up with everything I need at home to make sure I can give clients the best service and I am enjoying getting started.”

Amy will also split her time with her Deputy District Judge role which involves her working in the county and family courts in Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire.

“I learn so much from that role and hopefully that’s more expertise which I can bring to Cartmell Shepherd,” she said.
