June 2nd 2025

A Cumbrian legal firm has strengthened its team with the appointment of two experienced solicitors.

Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors has welcomed Alex McAll and Jennifer Robinson to its private client department, which deals with legal matters related to Wills, probate and inheritance.

The pair bring several years of experience to Cartmell Shepherd, which has seven offices across Cumbria and Northumberland. Alex will be based at the firm’s offices at Rosehill, Carlisle, and Brampton, while Jennifer will work from the Hexham office.

Deborah Flynn, Head of Cartmell Shepherd’s Private Client team, said: “As demand for our services continues to grow, we’re delighted to welcome Alex and Jennifer to the department, who bring a wealth of experience and expertise.

“Having such a depth of knowledge and skills within our team enables us to fully support clients with the right legal advice as they plan and make key decisions both now and for the future.”

Alex joins Cartmell Shepherd as an Associate Solicitor from Burnetts Solicitors in Carlisle where he worked in the firm’s private client department for three-and-a-half years. After studying law at Manchester Metropolitan University, he completed his Legal Practice Course (LPC) at Northumbria University before securing a training contract with Wragg Mark-Bell Solicitors in Carlisle, qualifying as a solicitor in 2017.

Originally from Durham, Jennifer spent five years working as a solicitor in Sheffield before recently returning to the North East. She earned a first class law degree and an LPC Masters from the University of Sunderland before qualifying as a chartered legal executive in 2021 and as a solicitor the following year. Jennifer joins Cartmell Shepherd from Wake Smith Solicitors in Sheffield, one of the leading legal firms in South Yorkshire, where she was part of the firm’s private client department which is listed in the prestigious Legal 500 rankings.

Cartmell Shepherd has one of largest specialist Wills, probate and inheritance departments in the region, made up of nearly 40 staff including 16 solicitors. The team is a finalist in the 2025 Northern Law Awards in the Team of the Year category, with the winner due to be announced on June 12.

Cartmell Shepherd has two offices in Carlisle, as well as Brampton, Penrith, Cockermouth, Haltwhistle and Hexham. Its full range of legal services are available from all of its offices, offering specialist advice to individuals, organisations and businesses.
