Cartmells Run Club picks up the pace

June 24th 2025

Here at Cartmell Shepherd, supporting staff wellbeing is a key part of what we do. Colleagues have access to a range of resources and advice, designed to help them prioritise their mental and physical health … and now, thanks to Carolina Brianezi Melchior, a Trainee Solicitor in our Wills, Probate and Inheritance team, there’s a new way to get moving – the Cartmells Run Club!

Carolina came up with the idea after chatting with colleagues who said they wished they had more motivation to spend time outdoors. Being a keen runner herself, and inspired by the firm’s growing commitment to wellbeing, Carolina decided to invite others to join her for a run.

Launched in April, Cartmells Run Club is a friendly, inclusive group that meets once a week after work. What started with three colleagues jogging through Rosehill and Scotby has grown into a cross-department group running a variety of routes around Carlisle. Some run for fitness, others for mental clarity, and many simply enjoy catching up with colleagues outside the office.

Carolina said: “It’s not about being the fastest or fittest – it was about showing up and supporting each other. The fact that the company prioritised wellbeing gave me the confidence to get it started.”

The impact on team members has been clear with many reporting feeling more energised and connected.

Trainee solicitor Sam said: “When you are in a job where you are sat in an office all day it is very easy to become lazy – it’s great to get out of the office on an evening. Running with a group makes what can feel like a chore an enjoyable form of exercise.”

Trainee solicitor Joseph said: “The run club provides a great opportunity to stay active and connect with co-workers after sitting behind a desk all day.”

Aimed at beginners and seasoned runners alike, the club is all about getting fresh air and exercise and connecting with others. The club is now planning to support each other to train for a local race – look out for our orange t-shirts when visiting your local park!
