A leading Cumbrian legal firm has reinforced its commitment to innovation and client service by appointing an experienced marketing professional to its growing team.

Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors has welcomed Joe Sanders as its new Strategic and Digital Marketing Manager. Joe brings a wealth of expertise to the role, having built a strong track record over the past several years, including the last three as Marketing Manager at Cumbria Chamber of Commerce.

An Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Joe began his career in the publishing industry and holds a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Digital Marketing. Originally from the Scottish Borders, he now lives near Carlisle.

“There is a lot of change taking place in the marketing industry at the moment, particularly with the rise of technologies such as AI, which is reshaping everything from online search to how firms create content for different audiences,” said Joe. “I’m excited to be stepping into this new digital marketing role which is all about capitalising on these opportunities, ensuring that Cartmell Shepherd is well-positioned to build on its strong legacy and reputation for a sustainable, secure future.”

Joe’s appointment is part of a wider strategy to strengthen Cartmell Shepherd’s marketing capabilities and support its expanding legal services. He joins an established team led by Business Development and Marketing Director, Carol O’Donoghue, and including Marketing Manager Terri Hope and Marketing and Events Assistant Cassie Bradley.

“I’m delighted to welcome Joe to the team,” said Carol, who is Deputy Chair of the Marketing Taskforce at the UK200 Group, the UK’s leading professional association of chartered accountancy and law firms. “His appointment reflects our commitment to investing in marketing to support our legal team. My involvement with the taskforce keeps me up-to-date with the fast-moving world of digital marketing, and Joe’s expertise will help us stay ahead as tools such as AI continue to reshape the legal landscape.”

Cartmell Shepherd employs nearly 130 staff, including 43 solicitors, and operates across Cumbria, Northumberland and nationally, with offices in Carlisle (two locations), Brampton, Penrith, Cockermouth, Hexham, and Haltwhistle. Joe added: “Marketing is all about successful teamwork, and the ethos at Cartmell Shepherd, built around respect, quality, and innovation, is very important to me. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a team that’s growing and expanding its skills to better serve our clients.”
